Welcome

A warm welcome from the Priory Singers
We are a semi-professional choir based in Newport, South Wales, in the UK. Our twenty-four members range from less-experienced younger singers to semi-professional and professional singers with vast choral and soloist experience.
The name is taken from Caerleon's Priory, where we held our first rehearsals back in 1999. Since that time we have earned a reputation as one of the most polished and versatile choirs in the principality.
We perform a wide range of music from Tudor anthems and madrigals right through to arrangements of contemporary works. In the couple of years, we have performed anthems by Sixteenth-Century composers, a fully-staged performance of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, a new setting of the Requiem mass by our Musical Director, Stephen Benavente, the annual Nine Lessons and Carols by Candlelight, and our 'Lighter Side' regular engagement at the Dolman Theatre.
Last year, we celebrated our tenth anniversary and presented 1791: a celebration of the music of Mozart's final year, including the Clarinet Concerto with guest soloist Colin Lawson and the Requiem, with the Welsh Baroque Orchestra.
This year has seen the launch of our debut album, And So It Goes, and the première of Michael Elliott's Newport Elegy with the internationally-renowned pianists, the Cann Twins. We're also very excited to be performing the Wales première of Pearsall's Requiem in November this year, along with Bruckner's Mass In D Minor.
Our forthcoming events include a performance of the Bruckner E minor Mass and the rarely heard Requiem by Robert Lucas de Pearsall, a vocal workshop with Nigel Perrin and a concert tour of Paris in 2011.
